House Of The Dragon Episode Nine Review - 9 Ups & 1 Down
8. Up - The Cargyll Twins
George RR Martin loves a set of fictional twins; the more tragic the better.
As such, it should not be surprising that Arryk and Erryk Cargyll were given their largest chunk of screen time on House of the Dragon to date, portrayed by identical twins, Luke and Elliot Tittensor. This is immensely exciting news for diehard fans of Fire and Blood. Without trying to give too much away in the way of spoilers, the brother's story arc within Martin's canon is almost Shakespearean in its heart rending nature.
The twins are a fascinating pair of characters in the sense that they seemingly could not be less alike despite the identical nature of their appearances. Arryk has become hardened and cold in the service of Aegon and as such his disillusioned brother believes that he is lost to him; even when Arryk stands unarmed and at the mercy of Criston, Erryk does not intervene.
He's not done yet though. Such is Erryk's contempt and dismay at the idea of a land ruled by the vile Aegon, he goes a step further than simply failing to act by releasing Rhaenys, setting the chaotic events that unfold in the Dragonpit in motion. The preview for next week's finale shows Erryk swearing his loyalty to Rhaenyra, setting the scene for an enthralling conflict in which two brothers now found themselves on opposite sides of the battlefield.
