House Of The Dragon Episode Six Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs

6. Up - Dragon lore

House of the Dragon
HBO

House of the Dragon's debut episode touched on the fascinating concept of the Dragon Pit in its debut episode when Rhaenyra touched down on Syrax. The Princess and the Queen provided an even deeper look into the storied structure that houses the Targaryen dragons.

The Dragon Pit is a spectacular colosseum-like structure, to which Rhaenyra and Alicent's sons are taken so that Jacaerys may bond with his young dragon Vermax, and the show soon reveals that riders must gain the respect of their dragons, at which point they will obey no other master. However, the truly jaw dropping sequence came when Alicent's younger son Aemond ventures into the bowels of the Dragon Pit, after being mercilessly mocked by the other boys for his lack of a dragon.

As he descends into the depths of the earth, Aemond discovers a colossal stone cavern, housing a dragon who is so enormous that it almost fills the space. It is hard to decide what was more awe-inspiring, the apocalyptic burst of flame spewed in Aemond's direction or the idea that the foundations of King's Landing are filled with similar caves, each housing their own immense dragon.

The Targaryens weren't the only ones who revealed further insight into dragon lore; the episode also featured a beautiful scene in which Rhaena Velaryon is revealed to be singing to her dragon egg in an attempt to make it hatch. All of these minor touches highlight HBO's supreme dedication to doing Martin's work justice, and are just one of the many things that fans adore about this universe.
