How I Met Your Mother: 10 Best Supporting Characters

6. Arthur Hobbs

Hammond Druthers How I Met Your Mother
CBS

Bob Odenkirk took on the role of Arthur Hobbs, Marshall's boss, when he began working at the law firm Nicholson, Hewitt & West. He was nicknamed "Artillery Arthur" for his penchant for screaming at the top of his lungs at his employees, but when that wasn't happening, he was uncharacteristically cordial with them.

When he tore Marshall a new one, he didn't take it well, and he ended up crying there on the spot. This led to him later confronting Arthur, which manifested with him screaming at him while quitting his job, which wasn't exactly his plan when he went into his office.

A while later, Arthur became Marshall's boss when he began working at Goliath National Bank, but he didn't remember him. Arthur had somewhat mellowed out by this point, but he was still a tough enforcer who was way too much in love with his dog, Tugboat, whom his ex-wife got in the divorce.

Arthur becomes involved in several events in the gang's lives, including helping Barney with his prenup with Quinn, securing Ted's job when the new building site became an issue, and working closely with Barney on a number of events. He appeared in a total of nine episodes, and they were all the better for his being there.
