How I Met Your Mother: 10 Biggest Unanswered Questions
1. What Happened With Ted And Lily's Careers?
One of the many key focusses of How I Met Your Mother is the gang and their respective careers. Marshall's journey from law student to judge is inspired, and Robin's rise to worldwide fame as a news anchor is equally compelling.
Ted spends the first seven seasons working on adding his mark to the Manhattan skyline, something he achieves throughout the fifth, sixth and seventh seasons. He's then offered what promises to be a great job in Chicago, which he abandons at the last second so he can stay and New York with his future wife.
In later flashforwards, his career is barely mentioned, and it doesn't look as though he ever reached the level of success he achieved in making the GMB tower.
Similarly, Lily's careers as a teacher, artist and art consultant are left open to interpretation. She and Marshall move to Rome in the final season so she can live out her latest dream, but upon returning home it's never confirmed where she ended up. Did she go back to teaching? Did she finally make it as an artist?
Marshall and Robin get great conclusions to their careers, but Ted, Lily and - as noted in the last entry - Barney never really get a satisfying end to theirs.
