How I Met Your Mother: 10 Biggest Unanswered Questions
5. Why Did We See So Little Of Lily's Mother?
There are several issues with the show's inability to keep up with its supporting characters, from Robin's friends to Marshall's various bosses.
But one omission that grates most of all is Lily's mother, Janice. Throughout the show, stories are told about Marshall's family - who appear in every season, often for major storylines - Barney's estranged father and loving mother, Ted's dysfunctional parents and even Lily's deadbeat father.
But Lily's mother is never really seen save for a few early episodes, and rarely mentioned despite the show's focus on the family lives of the core gang (particularly in the sixth season).
Considering the fact that Lily mentions Janice lives in New York, and that they're said to be quite close, makes her absence all the more jarring on re-watches, especially when Lily and Marshall move to Rome and she's never even alluded to.
It's only a small issue, but a pretty intriguing one all the same.
