How I Met Your Mother: Each Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

One half of TV's gooiest and most endearing couples, Lily Aldrin is an old friend of Ted and later wife of Marshall. A teacher with a love for art, she has some of the show's funniest and most heart-wrenching moments. Away from her relationship with Marshall, though, there are some issues, including her impulsive behaviour, shopaholic tendencies and terrible communication skills.

Lily is as complex as they come - at once wise, loyal and strong-willed, she is let down by her more intense behaviour, best seen when she leaves Marshall to go to San Francisco, racks up a large, secret pile of credit card debt without telling her husband, and when in the later seasons her character becomes far too sex-obsessed.

Still, Lily is the glue that holds the gang together. And, when it comes down to it, she is the most loyal friend any of the others have ever had. Also, her "You son of a bitch" line is just too funny to not get a shout-out.
