CBS

During its nine seasons and 208 episodes, How I Met Your Mother gave fans of quality sitcom television some truly quality sitcom television.

From the powerhouse pairing of Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, this series is one that had many still clamouring for more by the time it finally came to a close in 2014. Sure, the ninth and final year may have admittedly dragged its season-long narrative out a tad too much for some, but that didn’t take away from what was an overall phenomenal series that stands as one of the best of the modern era.

Three characters who brought so much of the entertainment factor to How I Met Your Mother, with their everyday lives so often intertwined, were Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney Stinson, Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby and Jason Segel’s Marshall Eriksen.

All three of this trio were so very different, yet all three had so many similarities. And throughout How I Met Your Mother’s run, they were tasked with delivering some of the most comedic and even more poignant quotes that the series served up.

So, which character said each of the following lines of dialogue – was it Barney, was it Ted, or was it Marshall?!

1. Whenever I’m Sad, I Stop Being Sad And Be Awesome Instead.
