2. Tracy
We waited seven whole seasons to meet the mother of Ted’s children, and she did not disappoint. Tracy was sweet and funny; she was everything that Ted had been looking for.
It would have been nice to see more of their journey together in season nine, rather than all of the Barney-Robin wedding nonsense, as it all came to an abrupt end in the finale.
That Ted did not end up with the mother is not an indictment on Tracy. The writers did a great job of showing how perfect she was for him. But she was just a part of a bigger story.
1. Robin
It was always Robin.
No, they weren’t that well suited and, yes, she married Barney, but Ted’s love for her ran so deep that not even the weather could overpower it. He made it rain for crying out loud!
That the series concluded with Ted and Robin together, rather than him and the mother, really irked some fans. But Ted and Robin were the romantic centre of the show. We had invested nine seasons in them. He couldn’t have ended up with anybody else.
It was always Robin.
