How I Met Your Mother Season Finale: Alyson Hannigan Drops Major Hint On Mother Reveal
Monday night will be the anticipated Season 8 finale of the CBS hit show, How I Met Your Mother. The season has surrounded the lead up to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) getting married, with the last few episodes involving Barney's bachelor party and Robin pouring her soul to Ted on having doubts about the wedding. The wedding is a very key part of the series, because as we have found out through older Ted (narrated by Bob Saget) in his story to his children, he finally meets the mother while she's playing in the band. This past week, Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lilly on the show, appeared on "The Late Show" with David Letterman, and dropped a potentially big hint as to when we may find out the identity of the mother. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pTgQ8ohJlsI
"I had always thought that the last shot of the whole series was the reveal of the mother. But without CBS coming and killing me, I'm glad I didn't bet on that."Letterman jokingly said he thought Hannigan was the mother, in which she laughs and says no, although she technically is a mother on the show, having baby Marvin with her husband, Marshall (Jason Segal). With that quote, Hannigan may have dropped a subtle hint that the identity of the mother could in fact be coming in Monday night's episode of the show. The show is under contract for one last season for Season 9, so the creators of the show could use that season to not only reveal who is the mother, but allow the audience to get an idea of who she is and why Ted (Josh Radnor) falls in love with her. And with the central idea of the story being Ted telling his kids the lengthy and detailed story of how he met their mother, it would make sense. At least, that's what you would think. Or, Hannigan could have just been using the opportunity on Letterman's show to plug How I Met Your Mother and get publicity for CBS so everyone tunes in on Monday night. But revealing the mother at the end of Season 8 would be a great way to end the current season and head into the final one of Season 9. That way, it would give the creators and writers almost four months of the audience frantically waiting and talking about what they saw back in May, that is until they are back on the air on CBS in September, in which, the audience is literally pacing around waiting for the show to start. Maybe, just maybe, Hannigan strategically went onto Letterman the week before the final episode of the season and dropped this hint as a ploy, in which CBS may have planned for her to do that to get speculation up and draw in even more ratings, especially for a season finale. (The more people are talking about it like this, the better.) For HIMYM fans all over, Monday's episode can't come soon enough, because it has the potential to give all of the fans the one thing that they have waited for since 2005.
