How I Met Your Mother: Ted's Relationships Ranked

5. Zoey

How I Met Your Mother
CBS

Ted and Zoey's relationship goes through a few more steps than most enemies to lovers couples. The duo start as potential friends, then sworn enemies, then actual friends, then, finally, lovers.

Ted and Zoey meet when Ted scouts out the Arcadian, an old, disgusting building he was set to destroy in order to design a new building for Goliath National Bank. Zoey, a beautiful woman, wants to keep the Arcadian from being destroyed, so naturally Ted himself now wants to preserve it. When he discovers that Zoey is married, he switches back to GNB's side and advocates for the building's destruction.

Zoey then spends some time antagonizing Ted in an attempt to sabotage the project, and the two start to loathe each other. However, when Zoey accidentally befriends the gang, Ted reluctantly becomes a friend as well, and the two start a relationship once Zoey gets divorced.

Even for those who did not watch the first half of HIMYM Season 6, it's obvious from their relationship that Ted and Zoey started out as enemies. They constantly antagonize each other, never agreeing on anything, including how often healthier couples like Marshall and Lily agree with each other. Future Ted even admits that a supportive relationship, one in which your girlfriend does not record you behind your back in order to sabotage your lifelong dream, is a better fit for him.

Although Ted and Zoey do care for each other, their relationship could not last. Like the Arcadian, it had to fall apart to make way for something better.
