How I Met Your Mother showed many different romantic relationships throughout its nine year run. Firstly, there was your high school romance with Marshall and Lily. They met in college, and after a few bumps in the road, they went on to get married and have three children.

Secondly, there was your one-night stand "romances". Barney's dating history is the perfect example of this. For the most part, he had absolutely no respect for women. He would belittle them, lie to them, pretty much do anything if it meant having a good night.

Then lastly, there was your hopeless romantic who would stop at nothing to find the love of their life. Yes, we are of course talking about Ted Mosby. From the outset, it was his mission to find "the one", and although it may took him a while, he eventually found his happy ending.

One strong contender however that almost became Mrs. Mosby was Robin Scherbatsky, the second biggest commitment-phobe out of the group. She very rarely let her guard down, but when she did, it was clear how she really felt about Ted.
