Is The Secret Star Trek TV Series A Wrath of Khan Reboot?
"To the last, I will grapple with thee..."
With Star Trek: Discovery coming fast over the horizon, another sequel in the Kelvin-verse just about set in concrete and whispers of other projects it's a great time to be a Star Trek fan. Arguably the most exciting development came quite recently with the news that Star Trek veteran Nicholas Meyer is working on a secret project.
Already attached to Discovery in a production and writing role, Meyer revealed that the show opens up the possibility of lots of new Star Trek stories. And rather gloriously, it now seems that one of those stories could be a prequel to Wrath of Khan.
The spin-off series would focus on the genetically engineered supervillain following Khan in his exile on Ceti Alpha V after his first appearance in 1966 Star Trek episode “Space Seed” and before 1982’s The Wrath of Khan. There's already a wealth of material dedicated to Khan's backstory, including Benedict Cumberbatch's new version in JJ Abrams' timeline and Greg Cox's The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh.
The rumour comes courtesy of Geek Exchange who claim they were told by two separate sources that Meyer is working on a miniseries about Khan Noonien Singh and when Inverse asked him about it, he hilariously said: “I Khannot possibly comment.”
That might as well be outright confirmation.
