With the focus being on Jessica's quest to bring Kilgrave down, Season 1 didn't dive too much into Jessica's origins. We did, however, get a few flashbacks to the car crash that killed the rest of the Jones family and some mentions of the clandestine IGH organisation that appear to have experimented on Jessica, giving her superpowers.
From the trailer, it seems that Jessica will begin to unravel the mystery of what happened to her in the new season. One juicy line from Janet McTeer's character even teased what actually happened to her. "You were brought back from the dead," the enigmatic woman says. "The powers were a side-effect."
This sounds a lot like the Hand's MO to us - after all, Elektra got powers when she was resurrected. I'm not sure if this would be a neat connection or a bit unimaginative but, whatever the explanation for Jessica's powers and the organisation is, hopefully the show will deliver something satisfying.
Interestingly, IGH seems to be a new creation for TV so the revelations should be a surprise for both hardcore Marvel fans and newcomers.
