Looking: 5 Things HBO’s New Show Completely Nails

1. Jonathan Groff: Adorable & Awkward

Along with the serious issues the show discusses, we have the humour. With the confusions, we have the relationships. And to top it all off we have Jonathan Groff. Sweet and nerdy Jonathan Groff, who sits in front of his computer with his glasses, spooning cereal into his mouth. Adorable is an understatement. He's not only this, however, he's actually a character we enjoy watching. Groff plays Patrick and has an innocence about him that is full of humour. When the trio talk about sex, Patrick seems somewhat disjointed and confused. In the first scene, for example, when he meets a man in a park, he's awkward and fumbly. When he's on his date he drinks far too much wine, aptly saying "Oh, I just downed that," and looking at the glass as if it's to blame. Finally, when he's approached by an attractive man on a bus he gives him the wrong card. We're glued to Patrick because of Jonathan Groff's performance. Patrick is arguably the main character so we spend more time with him and almost act as him. We become the awkward, fumbly guy - and let's face it there's one in all of us. What the show does is completely nail a new way of portraying a main character to make him relatable and to put us directly in his shoes. So what do you think? Did Looking grab your attention? How did you feel about it? As always we want to hear your thoughts so please comment below.
