Four years have passed since Lost reached The End and it's been a decade since cameras started rolling on the shows first episode. Lost ushered in a new era of television, paving the way for networks in the years since to see the mainstream viability of genre shows along with being the first show to truly inspire deep interaction among fans in the realm of growing social media. In its wake, Lost has given rise to countless imitators, many of whom attempted to balance a multitude of characters in their narratives to various levels of success and failure. Divisiveness over the shows ending aside, its inarguable that Lost provided audiences with unforgettable main and supporting characters and six seasons of rich character work, so much so that witnessing one of them die was akin to losing a real-life friend. With the show etched in our memory for the past decade, its time to look back and honor the characters we lost along the way, whose deaths were heartbreaking, traumatising and unforgettable, both for the other characters in the show and us, the audience who had invested time in them... 15. Leslie Arzt
While not emotionally devastating by any stretch, the death of high school science teacher Leslie Arzt is one of Lost's most immediately memorable deaths by virtue of circumstance alone. During a tense scene in which Arzt find himself wrapping dynamite and lecturing the A-team all about it during its first trip to the Black Rock in the first season finale, the dynamite explodes in Arzt's hand the moment after it seemed he had successfully diverted disaster. In a single explosively unexpected moment, audiences were just as liable to jump in surprise and duck for cover as the characters were. While the loss of Arzt didn't leave anyone in tears or mourning his demise, the nature of his death is one that would come full circle to another character in the show's final season and left viewers with one of Hurley's best - and hilariously insensitive to the deceased - one-liners: "You got some... Arnzt on you."
