Take a look in the mirror. Now take a look at Don Draper or Joan Holloway (depending upon your gender or choice). Now look back in the mirror. What on Earth went wrong? Mad Men shows the 1960s as a time where effort was given to everything, especially to the way you looked when you went to work. The men wear perfectly tailored suits, ties, fedoras and smart coats. The women wear beautiful dresses, corsets, stockings and hairstyles that radiate femininity. They have so much style and attention, making us nostalgically dream of a time when every man wore a suit and had a clean shave, hourglass redheads were dressed so sexy yet fearsome (told you), and gorgeous blondes presented perfectly in pretty dresses to welcome their suitably stylish husband home from the city. We nostalgically dream back to stylised fashions of a previous era with many times, like the 1980s, but the 1960s never made it look so damn classy. Mad Men presents us with a world where the players are presented as perfectly as the world around them, making us wish we could just dive in, slip into a beautifully fitting outfit and take a stroll down to Madison Avenue.
