Mad Men's 14 Most Slap-Worthy Moments

9. Jimmy Barrett, Pt. 1

2x03 Oh, Jimmy. In 2x03, comedian Jimmy Barrett is tapped to do a commercial for the agency's client, Utz potato chips. A connoisseur of tasteless jokes, Jimmy takes it too far when Utz owners, Mr. and Mrs. Schilling, stop by the studio as they tape the commercial. Mrs. Schilling is a rather large woman, and Jimmy takes the drop-down mic and lets loose a slew of fat jokes. Jimmy: "...Oh, god look at the size of it! Oh, the humanity!... Hey, get 'Sitting Bull' on the phone, we found the last buffalo... Get a wider lens, right? We wanna shoot her in CinemaFat!" Hats off to a man who can give Roger and Pete a run for their money. But it's not a matter of sexual power that make this scene so slap-worthy - it's that the male-oriented, sick humor that we've come to understand as a signifier of disjointed power levels reaches a new low. Jimmy makes it gutless. This scene also sets the foundation for Jimmy's role in the show for the season, as well as invite some rather compromising predicaments for Don at home and at work. He's shameless and unapologetic. And even when he does make apologies, it's wrapped in a backhanded bow that proves deep down he doesn't give a shit.
