Malcolm In The Middle: Every Lead Character Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Stevie

Malcolm In The Middle Lois
Fox

Stevie - the son of Abe - deserves a lot of credit for his importance in the show. This is due to the fact that he started as a seemingly one-bit character, designed to be mocked by the brothers, but fast became a series regular and good friend to the family, feeling like a true honorary member.

There's a lot that Stevie did right, most notably the connection to geeky archetypes of the time. With thick glasses and a weak disposition, the stereotypical loser character was a common trope during the early 2000s and even persists today. This gave Stevie a great place in the show and helped to show that while Malcolm was smart, he wasn't like his peers.

However, where Stevie fell short was in his lack of nuance. Despite being an amusing character, his poor breath control, slow speaking voice, and relative innocence was incredibly one-note, and he never got the right amount of development to overcome this.

He was a great piece of the puzzle but lacked the depth needed to rank higher.
