Marvel's Iron Fist: 44 Easter Eggs & Reference You Must See

16. Bakuto

Initially, it appears that Bakuto is basically going to be a Syrio Forel clone (they're not even trying at this point), it actually turns out, completely unsurprisingly, that he's actually running the Hand. But not the evil drug-dealing Hand we've already met, a different, nice Hand whose evil is only a necessary one as opposed to a naughty one.

Bakuto was introduced in the comics in Daredevil 505, as recently as 2010, in the run-up to the Shadowland event - which has been hinted at in both seasons of Daredevil so far. His backstory is completely different in the comics, and he has no link to Colleen, though he is a head of a branch of The Hand, and he ends up being killed by White Tiger.

Interestingly, when he dies in Daredevil 507, he was also stabbed in the gut.

Also interestingly, the plot of recruiting talented martial arts kids to The Hand is almost entirely ripped off from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret Of The Ooze. Why is it interesting? Well, because the Foot were themselves ripped off from The Hand.

Sadly, there is no Vanilla Ice cameo in Iron Fist, though.
