Marvel's Iron Fist: 44 Easter Eggs & Reference You Must See

14. Davos, Steel Serpent

Davos Iron Fist
Netflix

Danny Rand's friend Davos is first mentioned in episode 5, when he, Colleen and Claire are having an awkward take-away threeway and Claire asks if he ever ate meat at the monastery. Despite him later calling pizza garbage that ruins the body, it turns out Davos used to sneak out with Danny for a clandestine donkey snack while they were training in K'Un-Lun. Which is exactly as odd as it sounds.

Davos of course is a major character in Iron Fist's comic book backstory. In the comics, he is the son of Iron Fist's trainer Lei Kung, and earned the right to take the trial of Shou-Lao but was defeated and grew jealous of Danny Rand's powers when he gained the title. He would clash with Danny, following him to New York and stealing his powers.

The TV show version gets a different story entirely: he's a rival trainer and candidate for the Iron Fist title, but he is ultimately overlooked, and he only comes to New York to challenge Danny on the dereliction of his duty. They clash, and there's very much a possible set-up for season 2 in their friction.

Incidentally, it's his symbol and name - well, that of the Steel Serpent - that is used to mark the heroin packages the Hand distribute. Which makes no sense, but whatever, Netflix.

Also, try not to think of his arc being EXACTLY the same as Mordo's in Doctor Strange.
