Marvel's Iron Fist Review: 3 Ups And 7 Downs

1. Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing

If there's a real saving grace to Iron Fist, and in particular the creations specifically for this show (as opposed to characters like Jeri and Claire), then it's Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Like Finn Jones she's come from an unconvincing stint on Game of Thrones, but here she makes you forget all about the Sand Snakes, becoming the best new character in the process.

Unlike most of the other characters on the show, Wing is someone you actually want to follow. She's a compelling individual, and a relatable human with actual struggles outside of mysterious, mystical lands and billionaire boardrooms. Wing is strong and intelligent, easy to root for, and has better fight scenes than most of the ones Danny gets (her swordfights are quite a lot of fun to watch).

She's still not massively well-served by the writing - the love interest angle was unnecessary, and it wasn't quite believable that she'd so readily turn her back on the people she considered family in favour of Danny - but Henwick's performance is strong enough to overcome those flaws, giving us the true hero of Iron Fist in the process. If Netflix and Marvel have any sense, they'll already be exploring a Daughters of the Dragon spin-off with her and Simone Missick's Misty Knight.

Now, onto what didn't work in Iron Fist's first season...
