Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

8. Hellcat Is Here

Jessica Jones Trish Hellcat
Netflix & Marvel Comics

Though the experiments on Trish look to have failed - and almost kill her - much to her dismay, it would appear that her almost dying a couple of times was actually just a gestation stage for powers to manifest. Really, we should have realised this was going to happen since pretty much every superhero origin story has to involve some sort of pain and tragedy to overcome. This was just part of hers.

By the end of the season, Trish seems to have got herself cleaned up after her spiral back into drug abuse and in that final scene she appears far more healthy. And just as you think that's going to be the end of her story, she drops her phone, only to catch it with lightning reflexes that shock even her.

As nobody would have missed, this is foreshadowing her becoming Hellcat - her comic book superhero alter-ego - who is the ideal Trish has wanted to become all season. She doesn't want to be normal and she's ultimately envious of Jessica's powers and wants to be extraordinary herself.
