The show is positively fit to bursting with random little film and culture gags. There's a Ghostbusters reference in Episode One when Misty and Scarfe spar verbally: "Who you gunna call?" "Ghostbusters?"
Pop calls Luke Shawshank, in reference to the fact that he was framed for a crime he didn't commit.
The flashback that shows Pop's history as a street thug reveals that he named his sidekicks (including Cottonmouth) after characters in The Cat In the Hat - Thing 1 and Thing 2.
There's also a Driving Miss Daisy gag in episode 3 and the prisoners watch Night Of The Living Dead in episode 4 during the Luke in prison flashback.
At the very end of the show, Fish asks Diamondback what his outfit is supposed to be: "some sort of pimp Stormtrooper?!"
