Marvel's Luke Cage: 44 Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

14. The Warriors

Luke Cage Easter Eggs
Paramount Pictures

Diamondback's first appearance is a brilliant, sharp punctuation of violence. And even better, it references one of the greatest movies ever made: The Warriors.

After driving Cage and Claire to cover, he shouts CAN YOU DIG IT?

He then follows up with "Carl, come out to play!" - another of The Warriors' iconic lines.

So why The Warriors? Actually, it's a really clever reference.

Well, charismatic character Cyrus is a mix of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Jesus Christ, who is seeking to unite all of the gangs as a political bloc against police oppression. Like Luke Cage - and like Cottonmouth and Diamondback later wish to be - his vision is one of solidarity. Sadly, he ends up dead, but you can see why he'd be references.

And of course, the Warriors are framed for his murder, making them spiritual siblings of Luke Cage himself.
