Marvel's The Defenders: 10 Ways It Sets Up The Next Phase
9. Luke Cage And Iron Fist - Partners?
Comic book fans were going into The Defenders hoping that it would tease the coming of the Heroes for Fire - the crime-fighting organisation traditionally formed by Luke Cage and Iron Fist. While the show didn't end with a promise that this was on the way, it did lay the groundwork for one of the most long-lasting friendships in the Marvel universe.
As is the rule of superhero crossovers, Luke and Danny Rand initially come to blows and don't get on, but over the course of the show they grow to understand each other and become friends. In one interesting scene, Danny says to Luke that the two of them should be fighting on the front line - the streets of New York - side by side.
In the opening couple of episodes, Luke and Claire also discuss the need for him to get a reliable source of income - preferably one that keys into his desire to help people. Presumably, then, Luke is soon going to come up with the idea of being a hero... for hire. Whether Danny will be his partner when he does, we'll have to see.
