Marvel's The Defenders: 10 Ways It Sets Up Daredevil Season 3

6. An Identity Soon Exposed

Matt's aforementioned tenure in prison was onset by his double life having been exposed in the public arena, and it was a reality that his live action counterpart came dangerously close to bearing in The Defenders.

Like Karen says in the show's eighth episode, it doesn't take much to put two and two together; Matt left with Jessica and Luke after breaking out of the Harlem precinct; Daredevil was sighted in Midland Circle with them; neither the Devil or Matt emerged from the events that followed. People are going to ask questions, and it's likely that Fisk - who was already very close to discovering the truth in season two - will have asked them too.

The uncovering of Murdock's identity is what begets Kingpin's decision to escalate his revenge against him in Born Again, and its unveiling in the public eye has dominated the character's storylines for decades. It's unlikely that the temptation isn't there for the show's writers to expose Daredevil's secret identity in the public eye, and, given the foreshadowing that occurred during The Defenders, it's clear that discussions have taken place regarding the character's potential unmasking.

Either way, it's a given that Fisk will find out soon. He's a clever cookie, sadly, and that doesn't bode well for Matt and his friends at all.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
