8. It Provides Great Cultural References
Azari and Yang are greatly aware of the world around them. They make use of Tinder and other social media. They compare relationships to Rotten Tomatoes reviews. They insert references to cultural icons as various as Sylvia Plath and SpongeBob SquarePants.
The second season is where the references really take off and become more ambitious. They're not only made in conversations between the characters, but the whole episodes are based around certain classical ideas. For example, the first episode of the second season, The Thief, is a nod to Italian cinema, most notably to the 1948 Italian classic Bicycle Thieves. And the series' best episode, New York I Love You, follows the same formula as said movie. Both are shot and written with respect to the source material, which makes them all the more valuable.
