4. The MCU Has A Fantastic New Superhero
The first episode may have fell short in terms of desired length, however, it’s main purpose was to introduce the franchise to Captain Carter, and in this it passed with flying colours. Peggy has been a strong part of the MCU since 2011, and though Agent Carter is no longer technically a part of the MCU, her badass new version is.
The seemingly insignificant moment that led to this branch of reality was Peggy refusing to go upstairs when Steve was about to be given the super soldier serum. This time, when the bomb went off, Steve was shot, Howard Stark refused to step into the chamber, leaving Peggy to become the super soldier.
All of a sudden, as Steve put it, she was no longer clamouring to be heard, to be in the room and to be respected. She more than earned everything as Captain Carter, as she had no problem leading a team, taking initiative on the Tesseract, and kicking all kinds of HYDRA ass.
Peggy became a strong superhero in her own right, and even sent a space dwelling monster from the beyond the stars back to where it came from, and sacrificed herself in the same way Steve Rogers did in a different timeline. The only criticism is that there wasn’t enough time to truly appreciate her…
