How I Met Your Mother: 10 Unforgettable Running Jokes

4. The Bro Code

First appeared in: 'The Goat' For fans of How I Met Your Mother, the Bro Code is gospel. According to history (or at least Barney's warped version of the past), Barnabus Stinson was compelled to invoke the book's rules by a dispute between Benjamin Franklin and George Washington in 1776. Today, you can buy a paperback copy at any good book shop. Articles of The Bro Code include such sage pearls of wisdom as the Three Days Rule (waiting three days after getting somebody's number before calling), the Lemon Law (the ability to call off a first date within the first five minutes), and the Hot/Crazy Scale (stating that a potential date is only allowed to be as crazy as they are attractive). It also features a tracklist for Barney's iconic €œget psyched mix€ €“ an essential component of any legendary night out. The Bro Code was the subject of grave conflict in the series' later episodes, sitting at the centre of a particularly strained moment in season nine's 'The Broken Code'. When Barney discovered the extent of Ted's ongoing feelings towards Robin, he retaliated in passive-aggressive fashion under the stipulation that €œa bro shall not have a weird moment with another bro's fiance€. In doing so, he hit upon the finer points of How I Met Your Mother's nuanced love triangle in a way that only The Bro Code could.
