Mr. Robot: 21 WTF Moments That Left Fans Stunned

Even though there are very few characters to root for in Mr. Robot, FBI agent and Dark Army mole, Ernesto Santiago, was particularly unlikable on the totem pole of characters. His fake authoritarian demeanour hid a truly frightened figure who was struggling to deal with the demands put on him by the Dark Army.

Once Santiago realises that Dom and Darlene know that he's working for the terrorist group, he kidnaps them and brings them to a safehouse. While it might be a safehouse for Dom, Darlene and Elliot - who is brought there by fellow DA comrade, Irving - it turns out that Santiago's time is well and truly up.

With an axe in his hand and Santiago pleading for her life, it looked like Dom was about to be chopped into two by Irving. However, he instead planted the axe deep into Santiago's chest, killing him nearly instantly. Although fans weren't exactly complaining about his death, it still came as a shock to see Irving take out someone who had proved to be relatively useful to the Dark Army, just so he could force Dom into being the new mole inside the FBI.
