Mystery Science Theater 3000: 5 Overrated Episodes & 5 That Don't Get The Love They Deserve

5. Girl In Gold Boots (Episode 1002)

Mystery Science Theater Girl In The Gold Boots This one is pure late 60s exploitation cheese. The budget and subsequent production values are fairly decent, preventing it from descending into "truly terrible and unwatchable" territory like some other episodes do. It's much more of the "bland and tolerable genre," which MST3K often also pulled from to great effect. There are also some pretty memorable riffs and gags, so while Girl in Gold Boots never tops anyone's However Many Must-Watch MST3K Episodes list, it's often in there somewhere. Yet, for some reason, I can't make it through this episode. Actually, scratch that: I do know the reason. Back in the last days of MST3K's presence on the airwaves, I would religiously tune in to the Sci Fi channel on Saturday mornings (9 AM, EST) and hope to catch an episode of the show I hadn't seen yet. Considering I hadn't come across the show until its eighth season, there was certainly no lack of episode backlog to choose from. I'd spend the whole week prior counting the minutes until I curl up on the family room couch, unmolested, and watch a funny man and some robots make fun of a bad movie. Instead, all I got were endless rescreenings of Girl in Gold Boots. No-one else watching the Sci-Fi channel during that year (1999) seems to remember this, so maybe my memory is blowing one or two disappointments way out of proportion, but either way it felt like I watched that episode more times than I cared to remember, and I've become permanently oversaturated.
