3. Boggy Creek II: And The Legend Continues (Episode 1006)
Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues ("Hey legend, how's the continuing going?") is MST3K's only brush with hirsute Arkansas independent movie legend, the Fouke monster. And, also, Charles B. Pierce. Pierce directed the original The Legend of Boggy Creek, which ended up being a decent hit by Hollywood standards. A low-budget faux documentary, it ended up grossing $25 million US. Not too shabby! Pierce followed that up with some other hits, but unfortunately he also came up with this flop (which he referred to as the worst film of his career): The Legend of Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues. The first time I watched this one, I fell asleep, an honor shared only by Monster A-Go Go (which everyone, even The Brains, universally agrees is well nigh un-watchable). For the completionist's sake, it's worth a watch, whether you're completing your MST3K collection or the Charles B. Pierce collection is your preference. But outside that there is nothing that sets this episode apart from all the rest. There are no gags that ascended into fandom legend, no watershed moment in cast or character changes. To be fair, I didn't catch this one until Rhino released it on DVD, in a set alongside true classics like Time Chasers, Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, and The Touch of Satan. It might only be unwatchable, forgettable 80s dross in comparison to those episodes rather than through any inherent fault of its own. I just don't feel like watching it again to find out.
