Netflix's Atypical Review: 4 Ups & 1 Down

3. It Gets Family Life

Family life is rather boring and filled with routine. Elsa's idea of fun time with her family is to cook for them. She does a lot of hard work around the house, albeit voluntarily, yet she doesn't feel appreciated for her sacrifices. At the same time, often her help just makes things worse, especially for her daughter, Casey.

The Gardner family is like any other in regards to keeping stuff from one another. Every character has a secret, which causes quite a confusion when it eventually comes to light. And yet, this is a rather typical family, which stays together despite their struggles. Sam could be a regular kid with an unhealthy interest in Antarctica and penguins, and the series still would be worth the watch for the depiction of family life alone. These people love each other, even though sometimes they get too caught up in their everyday lives to show it.
