Netflix Live-Action One Piece Review: 7 Ups And 4 Downs
7. Up: The Sets Are Epic
Now that the messier parts of the show have been discussed, why not run through the things that make Netflix's One Piece one of the best live-action anime adaptations ever made? Where better to start than with the spectacular physical sets?
It is always satisfying to see projects that build handcrafted environments, especially when CGI backdrops and settings dominate the TV/Film landscape. If Barbie didn't give you enough of it, then you'll be satisfied here as the locations of One Piece are stunningly brought to life with excellent production design and practical sets.
There are plenty of locations in the season, and they're full of incredible detail. Each set has a distinct feel, and knowing they're there physically makes it all the easier to become engrossed in them.
A fine example is the crew's main ship, the Going Merry. This iconic boat was painstakingly built and it looks spectacular. Other great sets include the Baratie restaurant, Kaya's mansion in Syrup Village, Axe-Hand Morgan's Marine Base, and more.
The production spared no expense, turning the series into a visual delight.
