Netflix's Russian Doll: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

1. There'll Probably Be More

Russian Doll's ending is satisfying, surprising, and above all else it feels like things have truly come to a natural endpoint. Sure, there are still things left unexplained with regards to the magical realism driving the loops and what happens in various versions of them, but for the most part the story of Nadia and Alan is done. They've seemingly closed their loops and been allowed to move on, with room for interpretation too.

However, as has been confirmed, the creators pitched this to Netflix as a three-season show. There's been no renewal as yet, but then it typically takes Netflix around a month or so before confirming a renewal. It'll all depend on how many people watch it, but the buzz it's been generating and the acclaim received suggest that it's going well.

Because of that, you'd think Netflix would want it to come back too. While Lyonne and Barnett are both great here, it'd almost be a shame to see more of their characters, since the ending is so strong as it is. It could work as more of an anthology, but you'd imagine that Lyonne, at least, would be involved in an acting capacity to some degree, whether that's more of her journey, or if she takes on a role whereby she guides others. Either way, more Russian Doll seems likely right now, for better or worse.
