Netflix's Stranger Things Review: 8 Ups And 3 Downs

3. Genuine Scares And Thrills

Will Looks Up To Road R

Although the series should have a target audience of a reasonably broad age range - certainly more so than most Netflix dramas - and isn't billed as an outright horror, there are quite a few scares and thrills to be had here.

It's not a terrifying show, and for the most part can be watched without the need to hide behind the sofa, but there are times when you'll be on the edge of your seat, tensed up and gnawing at your fingernails, and a few when you'll jump straight out of it. That's particularly the case when the supernatural creature is appearing, or at least we're on its tail, with the show creating a suitably spooky atmosphere.

The worst thing it'll do is make you afraid of turning on - or off - the lights, given the feature pretty heavily in some of its spookiest sequences. Most horrors make you afraid of the dark, but Stranger Things scares you out of going near a light-switch.
