One key component to the success of The X-Files was that it had a terrific writing staff, including series creator Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, Vince Gilligan (who would go on to create Breaking Bad), Tim Minear (Angel, Firefly, American Horror Story), James Wong and Glen Morgan (the duo behind Final Destination), and Darrin Morgan (also a producer on Fringe). For the show to succeed, even as a new series, this sort of talent needs to come back. They know the characters and the world of The X-Files better than anyone, and just Carter alone won't be enough to make the show a success. The best thing Carter ever did was surround himself with great writers.
