Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
8. Too Many Expository Characters
A recurring issue plaguing Obi-Wan Kenobi has been its supporting characters, who - whilst almost all performed very well by a committed ensemble - have typically felt like little more than mouth pieces in place to explain away big plotpoints.
Part V is no different, re-introducing Kumail Nanjiani's con man Haja but giving him nothing to do except make a passing joke and unintentionally set-up the finale's big final clash by losing Obi-Wan's holoprojector, which Reva uses to find out the location of Luke Skywalker.
Haja isn't the only character left behind, though: Much like last week, O'Shea Jackson Jr's rebel Roken is given nothing to work with, spending most of his screen-time explaining things away like he's reading from a textbook.
Even the rest of the Path rebels are clearly only in place to make Obi-Wan vulnerable and inevitably die as Darth Vader and Reva launch an assault on the base. If the episode had cut some of the cannon fodder, the episode would've had more time focussing on its strengths.
Speaking of which...
