Only Fools And Horses: 10 Times Del Boy Was ALMOST A Millionaire

9. Tony Angelino And Raquel

The scheme:

Moving on a few years, the series seven episode 'Stage Fright' sees Del attempting to put his girlfriend (or 'significant other') Raquel back on the stage to revive her singing career, in a bid to earn some dosh from a local nightclub manager. As Raquel won't do the gig solo, Del partners her with Tony Angelino, a Tom Jones knock-off, middle of the road, over-tanned singer who leaps at the chance for a new booking.

Back in the early 90s, these kinds of cabaret acts were extremely popular, and the scene in which they perform is highly reminiscent of an old-school Benidorm tribute. If the gig in question had gone smoothly, Del Boy could have found himself with a very successful duo on his hands.

What went wrong:

If you've never seen this clip, you need to hear it to believe it (see above). It's one of the most jaw-dropping moments in the show.

It transpires that Tony can only sing certain songs: that is, songs without R's in them, due to a speech impediment. Unfortunately, all of Del's selected song list for the gig happens to have lots of R's in them.

As a result, a performance of Roy Orbison's 'Crying' turns more into a comedy act with some serious pronounciation issues. Needless to say, it didn't really take off from there.
