Only Fools And Horses: 10 Times Del Boy Was ALMOST A Millionaire

7. Trotter's Pre-Blessed Wine

The scheme:

In the 90s American special 'Miami Twice', Del finds himself with a Romanian contact who has access to some cheap Riesling wine. In a bid to start shifting loads by the lorry into the country, he propositions the local vicar to use the wine for holy communion across London.

On paper, it's actually a pretty smart move. The idea is the vicar would bless the wine by the lorry, before distributing it to various parishes across the city, with discounted prices and more free time for the vicars. It could have led to a major countrywide operation for the Trotter clan.

What went wrong:

Poor Del overlooked one crucial detail when planning his scheme: the colour of the wine.

It's only when the first deliveries start arriving that the vicar starts to realise all of the alcohol is useless. In holy communion the wine is red to symbolise the blood of Christ, but the cheap Riesling Del's been bringing in is actually white, making it all null and void.

It leads poor Del into so much bother he flees the country, and as a worried reverend tells Raquel, it's very likely he could be getting a call from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
