Tensions escalated between Sophia and Gloria throughout the course of season 3, especially after Sophia assumed that it was Gloria's son who was a bad influence on her little boy when he was actually being a rebellious brat all by himself.

After accidentally pushing Gloria into a wall, a rumour gets spread that Sophia is dangerous, leading to an attack in her own salon where some fellow inmates demand that she proves she is a woman.

Sophia is furious with the lack of protection she received from the new guards in the prison and says that she will go to the media with the story if nothing is done. The prison's response? Send her into the SHU for a period of isolation for her own "protection".

It is a shocking miscarriage of justice that left Sophia's fans fuming by the end of episode 12. We simply have to see her come back from the SHU with a renewed vigour to take the fight to the corporate heads of Litchfield, rather than shrinking away and backing down from the fight.
