Orange Is The New Black: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From Season 3

1. Piper As A Criminal Mastermind - Up

Although the notional lead of the show, Piper Chapman hasn€™t always been the most interesting character - far from it, in fact. That€™s not necessarily to say she€™s boring, and more a credit to the €˜supporting€™ cast around her, but she hasn€™t always been the best served character in terms of her storyline. She had two arcs running parallel this season - the love-story one, and the criminal business one. It is the latter that really helped push the character to the fore and made her worth investing time in this season. Working in the new Whispers factory making women€™s underwear, she hits on the idea of having the inmates wear them and sell them to perverts online, who it turns out will pay a lot of money for such garments. She gets to display her comedic chops - with a showstopping (in her mind, anyway) speech to convince her fellow inmates - and it also brings out a much darker, more cunning and manipulative side to her, getting to go all €œGodfather€™ and culminating with her sabotaging Stella€™s hopes of release.
