Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Review: 7 Ups And 4 Downs

3. The Emotion

The show's unique ability to jump from funny to touching in a matter of minutes is remarkable, and makes watching it so rewarding. This season is no different. Once again the ending is crazy and leaves more questions asked than answered, which is something that the show's creators are getting better at as it progresses.

The inmates being abused by the SWAT team, but encountering their friends and family once taken outside, makes for some touching moments, like Vinnie crossing the police line to get to Lorna or Maria hugging her infant daughter.

The most touching moment however comes when Taystee decides to take responsibility for her actions and become the face of the riot. She was the one that instigated it, yes, but when she finally finds the courage to speak to the press, set Judy King free and participate in the negotiations as the representative of Litchfield is the season's most powerful moment.

With tears in her eyes, she informs the world about what's happening behind bars and mentions the name of her dead friend enough times for the press to remember it. It's a beautiful moment - a real triumph of individual bravery.
