Tom is certainly one of the show's most ambitious characters, and he finally seems to settle on a solid business idea in season six when he opens up his restaurant Tom's Bistro.

The venture is initially successful for Tom, though the series finale reveals that his attempts to expand are eventually derailed by an economic recession, forcing him into bankruptcy, only for him to become a successful motivational speaker.

But Tom has actually had the idea for Tom's Bistro floating around in his brain since at least season two.

In the late season episode "Woman of the Year," he briefly mentions that he wants to open a restaurant called Tom's Bistro because, "the word 'bistro' is classy as s**t."

Given that the restaurant doesn't finally materialise for another four seasons, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that Tom laid it out so early in the show's life.
