Peaky Blinders: Each Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Grace Burgess

Peaky Blinders
BBC

Grace Burgess was originally an undercover operative working for the Birmingham police and reporting to Inspector Campbell. After infiltrating the Peaky Blinders, she falls in love with Tommy Shelby, who reciprocates her affections. Their love story is tragic, of course, and Grace is murdered at the beginning of Season Three, taking a bullet meant for her husband Tommy.

Grace's strong will was always her biggest strength. Although she fell for Tommy, she didn't become subservient or obsessed and she was always in control of her own decisions. Rejecting and then shooting Inspector Campbell at the end of Season One is a highlight for her character.

Fittingly for an undercover agent, Grace is rather mercurial in nature making it hard to predict what she would do next. She represented a great scene partner for Tommy as they both tried to assess what the other was thinking and if either of them were lying to the other.

In Season Five, Tommy often sees hallucinations of her character, showing us that he grieves for her even now he's remarried. These feel unnecessary most of time, and it can be hard to miss someone when their ghost is constantly popping up.
