Pennyworth: 9 Ups And 5 Downs From "Pilot"
1. It Doesn't Need To Be Pennyworth
Holy cash-in, Batman!
Upon watching the first episode of Pennyworth, it really hits home that this didn’t ever need to be show about Alfred Pennyworth. But hey, that name value and association with the Dark Knight is a selling point, right?
Realistically, Alfred could have been any SAS war veteran and Thomas Wayne could have been any US operative. These characters and their world could just as easily get by without any association with the realms of DC Comics.
In fact, if anything, it may have made the show even better if it wasn't titled Pennyworth and featured the aforementioned characters - as that would take away the knowledge that Alfred and Thomas will always be safe and sound, regardless of what threat rears its head.
