Picard – 10 Past Clues To What Could Happen Next (& Where To Find Them)

1. Popular Emotionless Characters Can Come Back From The Dead

Let's say that Data could still be alive - it's not like it's without precedent.

At the emotional climax of the tour-de-force that is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock dies. It’s a moment that had Trek fans bawling their eyes out in theatres across the world. Twenty-one years later in a climatic homage, the TNG era concluded when, like Spock, Data sacrificed himself to save the crew. In Spock’s case, his demise was short-lived.

Just two years later he was back, resurrected by a mysterious Vulcan ritual. In Data’s case, we’ve been led to believe that his death was more final. However, it’s obviously not unprecedented in the Star Trek universe for popular characters to be resurrected.

Picard has certainly led us to believe that Data is gone and that we’ll only see him in the melancholy dreams of Picard. But the series has already delivered us a major red herring in the death of Isa Briones’ character, Dahj, who was quickly resurrected as her twin, Soji. Data has brothers too, one is unaccounted for and another is in a drawer at Daystrom. We could still see Data on his feet before the end of Picard’s last adventure.
