Picard – 10 Past Clues To What Could Happen Next (& Where To Find Them)

In Picard, the Borg could need rescuing. The Voyager episode Endgame sees a catastrophic blow delivered to the Borg Collective when Admiral Janeway bitch-slaps them with a neurolytic pathogen and they basically fall apart.

The Borg and the Federation often mirror each other. While The Federation is benevolent, the Borg are malevolent. The Borg assimilate worlds by force; the Federation integrate worlds by diplomacy. In both cases, the aim is homogenised unity. The Borg’s goals are a dark mirror of the Federation’s. Their diminished power and resources are also paralleled.

In Picard, we have already seen a more callous side of Starfleet. Might we see a more sympathetic version of the Borg, as a literally broken species who are being exploited by other powers? We have the set up for that, we may well see the effects of this on an individual level and, hopefully, explore the moral implications of such exploitation; as Captain Picard struggles with in another episode of TNG – Hugh.
