3. Richard Harrow
If there was one character on the show universally adored by fans, it would have to be this guy.
A sympathetic battle-scarred war hero; Richard Harrow's debut midway through the first season doesn't elevate much of the story to begin with, but viewers are informed right way that he is as proficient a killer, and quite useful when disposing of unwanted nuisances.
Perhaps the most tragic of the main characters too, all Richard ever wanted was a family to love, and throughout his run on the series that opportunity was forever just out of reach.
Whether it was his brotherly relationship with Jimmy Darmody, or his romantic courtship with Julia Sagorsky, Richard was a character to root for throughout. No matter how many bullets and bodies flew across the screen, none of it mattered unless Harrow walked away the victor.
It makes his fall from grace ever more tragic, as he takes one last job on behalf of Nucky Thompson and is fatally wounded in the process. His last moments mark the end of the fourth season, and in a way mark the end of the show. Viewers thought the show wouldn't be the same after Jimmy Darmody died, turns out they were really thinking about this guy.
