Ranking Characters Of The Wire: The Law
5. Shakima 'Kima' Greggs
One of the most skilled investigators on the force, Kima was often an invaluable presence on any case she worked on including long tenures working angles against both the Barksdale and the Stanfield organisations. Collected and relaxed, Kima was one of the coolest detectives on the show.
Being an out lesbian, Kima managed to avoid a great deal of harassment that would have come her way from her male colleagues. The Wire has an awful lot of male characters so to see a female character like Greggs be as awesome and hands on as she is was wonderful. Her sexuality also allows the show to give some great representation, with her and Omar being two of the best characters on the show.
Greggs began to find it difficult to choose between her work and her family life with her pregnant wife. Greggs would struggle to be social and even personable and only felt at home when she was working a case. The one social connection that blurred the lines between work and personal was her close bond with the police informant and drug addict Bubbles. Her relationship with him was always touching and endearing.
